The Perfect Storm of the Left
A discredited president, an unpopular war, a tanked economy, and the fruition of a generations-long infiltration of America's schools and media is building to gale-force.
The opposition candidate is demoralized and cannot articulate, or even define, his positions. Indeed, to this day he seems oblivious to the damage he's done to the First Amendment with the bill that bears his name, McCain-Feingold.
Next year, barring a major upset, we will have a born-and-bred Hard Left president, and a compliant congress.
Think Russia, 1917, or the end of the Weimar Republic.
But perhaps it won't be that bad. Perhaps it won't be the Soviet Socialist States of America/National Socialist American Workers Party. Perhaps it'll only be Chicago politics writ large.
Forty years ago, Bill Ayers and his consort Bernadine Dohrn's comrades battled the police of the Daley dynasty in the streets of Chicago. Today, Ayers and Dohrn and their comrades have joined forces with Daley II's machine.
Daley I elected John F. Kennedy by delivering Illinois' electoral votes to the Democratic Party. Now his heir is helping the now-grown kids whose heads were busted by his daddy's cops elect their protoge president of the United States.
Do you find this odd or ironic?
I don't. I've read history, I've read Machiavelli.
This is the end of the Long March of the Left. This is the time they come down from the Sierra Maestre.
I do not mean a mere victory for the Democratic Party. Would it were only that!
I've been occupied lately covering the local election to the North Dakota state legislature. The three incumbents in our district (one state senator, two state representatives) are Democrats, and all decent, honorable citizen-legislators well worth listening to on the state issues.
On the national level, their party has been captured by the Hard Left - and I think I've detected signs of their being uncomfortale with this. All of them, for example, are avid hunters and gun owners.
Their Republican challengers would like to tie them to the national party on this and other issues, but it just doesn't come up in the context of state politics.
I don't know how far this applies in other states - but I know I shouldn't like to be a local Democrat who doesn't get with the national program under a Leftist regime.
Think Kronstadt, think Old Bolsheviks.
Starting I think a year after Obama takes office, if there is a filibuster-proof majority in the Senate, it's going to get very bad.
If the Republicans succeed in keeping a one or two-vote filibuster number, how much do you want to bet the news media can find a scandal or two to knock at least one Republican politico out of congress?
For years I've said the Hard Left cannot win in this country, because they've made a major strategic mistake, they don't like guns and they've made it too plain they despise the profession of arms.
Your revolution is not likely to get far when you alienate the police and military, and don't learn to fight yourself.
Now look at this:
July 2, Colorado Springs: "We can not continue to rely only on our military in order meet the national security objectives we've set. We've got to have a civilian national security force that's just as powerful, just as strong, just as well funded."
Don't just read it, LOOK AT THE DAMN THING! That's what it took for it to sink in for me, and I have to look at it again every few days to remind myself that it's real.

Do you wonder what color shirts they'll wear?
Who do you think they'll be recruiting from? Teenagers? Disaffected minorities? Illegal aliens even, as part of an "amnesty" and "path to citizenship"?
Surly kids with badges and guns, joy forever unconfined!
Now see: "The Barack Obama Truth Squad" http://www.kmov.com/video/index.html?nvid=285793&shu=1
Now go here http://bidinotto.journalspace.com/
and check out the videos Robert has provided under: Welcome to the New Progressive State
Now consider these trial baloons floated by the Democratic Party.
1) Reinstating the Fairness Doctrine, resulting in the blandification of media political coverage and the disapperance of talk radio.
2) Union card check replacing a secret ballot, giving carte blanche to union organizers to send thugs around person-to-person to "invite" them to demand a union at their workplace.
3) Legal challenge to laws requiring photo ID at voting places - if this isn't an invitation to wide-spread voter fraud, then please tell me what the hell it is.
See here: http://rantsand.blogspot.com/2008/01/is-this-for-real.html
Now ask yourself how much packing the Supreme Court would need to reach a different decision in a future case?
The mass of the American people still do not realize the team they are about to elect are not moderate-to-leftists who'll triangualte to the Center in order to govern.
I suspect we are about to see a huge case of buyers' remorse - about the time it's too late.
Obama's Left pedigree has been well-documented. His utter contempt for the First Amendment is obvious to any who will bother to consult the above cited examples.
And still it comes.
Next: Who's to blame?

Well, if you see the full speech,http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tt2yGzHfy7s
the comment is about increasing the civilian diplomatic corps until it's as powerful and influential in world affairs as the military. The clip you posted by itself is misleading.
HOWEVER, in this full speech he also talks, UNEQUIVOCALLY about FORCING(or at least strongly co-erasing with college loans, i.e. no "volunteering" - no loan) college students to "volunteer" 100 hours of community service/year.(at a 40 hour week that's 2.5 weeks "volunteering" for your friendly government). Re-introducing the Fairness doctrine is minor compared to this.

My chief beef with the soon-coming perfect RADICAL leftist storm, is the continual false-accusation of racism, and the power of the DHS in the hands of an administration that will likely see little qualms with using it against any dissent.
Couple that with campaign promises to pay off, and nothing but debt with which to pay them, and suddenly all first amendment issues pale away, because "dead, white, 'racist!!!' men tell no tales."

I'm not sure I'd take this "Perfect Storm of the Left" as far as labeling it "Russia 1917". More like "Jimmy Carter, part 2", which will be awful no matter how you slice it. Even if the Dems win big this year, they can lose power in two years if they do something really stupid.
On a different note, I went to the my local monthly gun show here in Texas and business was VERY heavy. Lots of ARs and AKs being sold. Better safe than sorry, I guess.

Gerry,
Not surprising that business at the gun show. There are lots of people getting ready for whatever is going to happen, and since this "financial crisis" has at its base $60 trillion in unsatisfied financial obligations to the ChiComs, the marker could be called in at anytime, and I doubt they're going to accept payment in wheelbarrows of worthless fiat paper.
That's when "the leaders of the free world" discover they're nothing more than slaves...
Cound that be the cat Biden almost let out of the bag?

Metatron,
I'm sorry but the URL you give produces exactly the same clip. Perhaps you had another in mind?
Still, it's hard to imagine what could have been taken out of context herein. He clearly says, "civilian national security force" etc.
He might have equivocated on another occasion - but the thing speaks for itself in that video, it's not diplomats he's talking about.

Sorry, wrong url, here's the one of the full speech.

Mr. Browne,
Thank you for a very informative article. While the danger signs are clear, I do not think that Obama and the demos will be the end of freedom as we know it in the west. It will be a major setback for now, however we did survive a close call with socialism in the early 30's and I think that America will survive Obama mania too. Obama and his Marxist leanings are very dangerous, and I could be wrong, but I think when moderates in both parties see what his real intentions are, they will stand up to him and his followers. It looks like we are about to take a very hard left in this country and it is sad to see that we elect presidents using as much thought as it takes to vote for the latest American Idol. However, call me optimistic, I think the left is desperate and overplaying their hand, and I do not think, given the information outlets available today, that Americans will so easily go along once reality starts to set in. Obviously it is sad that Marxist utopian ideas still fester like a sore that won’t heal, but I do not believe that America is quite ready or willing to stomach a political party taking this country too far towards a Soviet or Nazi-style state.
Sincerely - Michael C. Hook

I watched the whole clip and it's very odd to me. A civilian national security force that gets the same amount of funding as the military? He's flipped his lid. I also like how he said loving your country means doing your part to change it. I guess that means if I love it, I have to change it to the way he wants it because he knows best.
I thought a lot of what he was saying sure sounded like educating everybody to think the same way he does.

Honestly, I think compared to $60 trillion in unpaid debt to high-tech, heavily-armed foreign governments, Barack Obama "ain't $#!+".
A generation ago we learned the hard way that "trust me" government doesn't work. I'd a lot rather trust the Constitution and the Bill of Rights than the kindest, most benevolent and well-meaning dictator. It seems the lesson has been lost on a generation that can't get off their ass, their blackberries and/or their video games long enough to hold a job and be responsible.
The alternative of an even more leveraged America, 8 more years of police-action, cannon-fodder "wah awn terr-iss", $5-10/gallon gas and $300 Whoppers under McAmnesty is atleast equally unacceptable.
Too bad they BOTH can't freaking lose!

This is indeed "the election from Hell," as John Derbyshire said.
If Obama wins - we get Obama-Biden.
If Obama loses, we get McCain plus a huge section of the intelligentsia whining that we're an irredeemably racist nation.
Perhaps we're going to lose our freedom for the simple reason that we don't deserve it.
Hey, two-and-a-half centuries is better than a lot of nations have had.
